History of Rolfing
![]()

Rolfing was developed over the course of 50 years by Dr. Ida Rolf who held a PHD in biochemistry from Columbia U.
She continued her studies on fascia and connective
tissue with a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation in NYC. With
her main focus on fascia and how it effects the
structure of the body, Dr. Rolf determined that fascia and its function
as an organ of support permeates the entire human body.
It forms a whole-body continuous three-dimensional matrix of structural
support. Fascia interpenetrates and surrounds all
organs, muscles, bones and nerve fibers, creating a unique environment
for body systems functioning.

Craniosacral Therapy
What is it?
About 100 years ago Dr. William Sutherland had a remarkable insight while examining
the specialized articulations of cranial bones. Contrary to popular belief
Dr. Sutherland realized that cranial sutures were, in fact, designed to express
small degrees of motion. This motion is essentially produced by the body’s
inherent life force, with he referred to as the “Breath of Life.“ Furthermore,
Dr. Sutherland discovered that the motion of cranial bones are closely connected
to a network of interrelated tissues and fluids at the core of the body; including
cerebrospinal fluid, the central nervous system and the membranes that surround
the central nervous system and the sacrum.
During the course of our lives our bodies become patterned, shaped and conditional according to how we’re able to deal with an stress or traumas. If stresses or traumas are overwhelming, they become locked in the body effecting the natural rhythmical movements of the Breath of Life and so hinder the ability of our essential blueprint for health to manifest at a cellular level.
A gental facilitation
The emphasis in Craniosacral Therapy is to help resolve the trapped forces that underlie and govern patterns of disease and fragmentation in both body and mind. This involves the practitioner “listening through the hands” to the body’s subtle rhythms and identifying places of restriction and where cranial sutures are held up and then to gently release them.
How does it feel?
Besides a slight touch on your head, the therapy is painless.
Most clients report falling into a dream-like state during their
session waking up refreshed and grounded. Sessions last from 45
minute of
1 hour.
There is increasing world wide interest and continuing research concerning fascia and the role it plays in musculoskeletal strain.
